A call for volunteers to become community patrollers or reservists for the Sector 4 suburbs
Training imminent.
We need you now.
Jenny Naidoo, station commander of Douglasdale Police Station, is looking to members of her precinct to volunteer as community patrollers and reservists for the 2010 Soccer World Cup. Training will be provided to volunteers. This gives each sector in the precinct a good opportunity to build permanent teams of community patrollers and reservists to increase visible policing in every sector with the aim of dramatically reducing crime during and after the Soccer World Cup. As communities, we need to start being proactive in preventing crime and pushing criminals out of each sector and, by working with other sectors and SAPS, chasing them away from the entire precinct. Visible policing is one of the most effective ways in which we can fight and reduce crime.
What these roles entail
Community patrollers do not carry firearms and are not expected to confront criminals. They act as informants. They patrol suburbs and report what they see to the police.
Reservists receive the same training as police officers. They are, in effect, unpaid, volunteer police officers.
Sector 4 has established a team for Community Mobilisation: Community Patrollers and Reservists
Jason Neville, a volunteer from the community, has come forward to head up the Sector 4 Community Mobilisation team (Community Patrollers and Reservists). He is getting to grips with the role and will need others to join him in this important anti-crime initiative. If you are interested in joining the Sector 4 Community Mobilisation team, please contact Jason on 082 444 8771 or email him on reservist@ddcpf.co.za We need an army of people to fight corruption and crime. You will work with the Douglasdale police force and have their full support.
A call for resources for community patrollers and reservists
Our newly-formed Sector 4 Community Mobilisation team will need donations of:
Walkie Talkies
Bullet proof vests
Lumo vests
Yellow lights
Torches
Taysers
Chilli/pepper spray
Vehicle decals that identify vehicles as part of the Douglasdale Sector 4 community policing fleet
Could anyone with any contacts with respect to these needs please contact Jason and Susan.
We are starting out from scratch and have nothing yet, but we are confident that we will build this team into a formidable force, working with a committed Director Jenny Naidoo and her team at Douglasdale SAPS, including our sector 4 manager, Constable Emmanuelle Mokobane.
Regards,
Susan Mottram
